9:15 AM - 11:45 AM Thursday the 5th of February to Wednesday the 2nd of April 2026. ‘Botanical Drift’ is a 9 x 2.5 hour painting course where you will learn to paint in negative spaces You’ll be using STENCILS, acrylic paints, inks, pencils, paint mediums, and metallic paints This course is suitable for beginners and intermediates. I’ll start you off with easier, manageable techniques... then add to your skill base as you go along For the first four weeks, you will practice using materials to paint the ‘reverse’ images and patterns... with the help of stencils. I’ll teach you, step by step, how to paint ‘backwards’ (leaving the image ‘blank’ and painting round it!) In the last five weeks of the term, you’ll design and paint your own unique work of art. I’ll be right there to help you if you get stuck! For these classes, STENCILS will be available if you choose to use them. If you are in the “I can’t draw” camp... never fear! I have a raft of techniques at my disposal to get you over that line. Promise! Beginners are WELCOME and Improvers will get ‘extended’. I never leave people stranded, so if you get into a pickle... What You Will Learn: * Learn which brushes /sponges /paints/ inks/ stencils/ art pens /stamps to use * Learn how to blend inks and paints using art gel, sponges, brushes etc. * Practise painting flowers , leaf forms, bird silhouettes etc in different ways * Practise painting backgrounds What's Included: * YOUR OWN ART KIT that you can take away with you: - Brushes - lidded paint palette - a soft white Caran D’Ache Aquarelle pencil - heavy duty A4 paper - and a clear file folder * FOR YOU TO USE IN CLASS: - Paints, inks, gels, sponges, pencils, stencils - Step-by-step instruction sheets to use in class (you can photograph them) What YOU need to supply: * your own final canvas - only needed in week 4 * If you want to paint at home, you’ll need to buy your own paints and inks - happy to talk and advise Class Size: * Up to 12 students Where Are Classes Held? * 49 Huatoki Street, New Plymouth PLEASE PARK ON THE ROAD.
